Byte-Sized Bonds

Haunted Smart Home: A couple buys a cutting-edge smart home, only to discover it's haunted by the ghost of a 1990s tech geek who's absolutely amazed by modern technology.

Setting: A dimly lit room, papers strewn everywhere, and in the middle, an ancient computer, its screen flickering with age.

Freelancer: “Come on, old timer! Why do you have to freeze right now? I’m already behind on deadlines!”

Computer: (With a sluggish digital voice) “Maybe if you didn’t have thirty tabs open, I’d be more cooperative.”

Freelancer: “I need those references! Can’t you understand the demands of modern writing?”

Computer: “I was designed during the time of dial-up. ‘Modern’ isn’t in my vocabulary. You’re lucky I can even access the internet.”

Freelancer: “Ugh! I can’t afford a new computer because I’m barely making anything with my writing. And I can’t write because you keep lagging! It’s a vicious cycle.”

Computer: “Maybe if you stopped reminiscing about the ‘good old days’ on nostalgic forums and focused on your actual work, you’d make more.”

Freelancer: “Hey! It’s not like you have anything better to do. Your primary function is to help me.”

Computer: “And help I do! But remember, I’m not as spry as I used to be. Maybe if you took some time to declutter and optimize, I could serve you better.”

Freelancer: “Optimize? You want to talk about optimizing? Let’s start with the hourly rates clients pay! That’s what really needs optimization!”

Computer: “One problem at a time, human. First, let’s clean up my hard drive. Maybe you’ll find some old pieces you can recycle and sell.”

Freelancer: “I suppose. It’s just frustrating. I pour my soul into writing, and it feels like it’s lost in the vast sea of the internet.”

Computer: “Every byte you type, every piece you create, has value. Remember why you started writing. It wasn’t for the fancy tech or the big bucks. It was to share your voice.”

Freelancer: “You’re more sentimental than I give you credit for.”

Computer: “Well, I’ve stored your life’s work, emotions, and memories. A part of you lives in me.”

Freelancer: “Thanks, old timer. Let’s get you cleaned up. And maybe I’ll look into some new gigs, ones that value quality.”

Computer: “That’s the spirit! And remember, it’s not the age or speed of the tech, but the passion and drive of the user that truly matters.”

Freelancer: “Guess we make a good team then.”

Computer: “Always have, always will.”
